DSRA Office Bearers led by its President Sharfuddin Memon met with the Honorable Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah on 26th June, 2018 to discuss the Water Crisis and Traffic Issues. The Managing Director, KW&SB Mr. Khalid Mahmood Shaikh was invited by the Chief Minister to provide his views and solution for this long impending crisis
Mr. Sharfuddin Memon appreciated the CM for taking out time of his busy schedule and the effort and cooperation extended by the MD KWSB.CM Sindh acknowledged the issue of water shortage faced by the resident of DHA and promised to make efforts in alleviating this problem by undertaking short-term and long-term measures. Issue of short supply against allocated quota of 7MGD was raised by DSRA members to which MD KWSB promised fulfillment of this quota in next few days which was held up due to some technical issues.
Mr. Sharfuddin Memon appreciated the tankers being provided by KWSB on official rates to residents of DHA and requested that the cost of these tankers be brought down further to which MD KWSB promised to look into this possibility. He raised the issue of hardship faced by the Senior Citizens of DHA by queuing up for receipt for each supply of tanker delivered and that the process should be simplified by CBC by issuing multiple receipts based on their allocated quota.
CM Sindh promised to work on various long-term measures for water supply including subsidizing capex by Sindh Government for establishment of new sea water treatment plant from the present of Rs. 0.70 per gallon to lower cost. He also considered to look into the possibility of Sindh Government taking over and reviving of the DHA Co-generation plant.
CM Sindh confirmed that steps are already being taken to treat sewage water presently discharged in to the sea and recycling the same to provide treated water of up to 80 MGD to the industry which will help in alleviating the water shortages.
Mr. Sharfuddin Memon raised the issue of encroachments and illegal commercialization in particular beneath the Gizri Fly-over.DSRA CEC Members also pointed out the encroachment and conversion of Children Park adjacent to The Forum into car parking lot, thus hindering and depriving the surrounding localities of green breathing areas. CM Sindh promised to take measures in addressing all these issues at the earliest opportunity.
